Team Conflict: Personality difference

A: Hey, I need to do this on schedule, don’t miss it….

B: Come on, I am too busy in my job this week. I must complete it before the deadline. Trust me.

C: But the due date is three weeks after tomorrow. Our parts can only be done after your part. Please send out your part as soon as possible, otherwise, our parts can’t be done.


B: Don’t worry. It’s ok. Trust me.
 
A, C: …………………..  



A, B and C are the members who grouped together in the course of MGT6209. Their group name is ‘Spirit’. Satirically, the team is no spirit at all. Member blames at each other.
 


‘One week left, we need to hand in our assignment. I wait for your part to further describe for my part. Please send me your part asap.’
 
‘’How come they always don’t stand on my side. I am very busy on my own job these days. Once I complete my project of own work, I must do my part and send it to them immediately. Always chasing me, so disturbing they are.’
 
 
 
Two weeks before the deadline……….
 
 
 
C: What can we do? I still don’t receive his part. My part is following his part in order to be coherently.
 
A: Don’t worry. I have already done a backup plan. I did his part already. Once he cannot send out tomorrow, we use my work.
 
C: You are so nice. It’s unfair to you. Let tell the professor about his do nothing on the assignment that ask for zero score for him.
 
A: No need. Don’t be angry. He may be really busy in his work. Moreover, I think the purpose of doing assignment does not just want us to do paper work or to test our theoretical knowledge, but also want us to collaborate with others in the common goal. It’s ok. I just view it as a chance to cope with different type of people.’
 
C: ………….
 

 
 
 
It’s not necessary to find out the authenticity of the above story. But more importance is, the personality of each member in our team is not the same. Frankly speaking, is quite difference. Each of us have different growing background, different environment, different customs, different views point on particular issue….i.e. personality difference! How to connect each member is a big and difficult problem.  Hopefully, we all are responsibly person. We all want to do the thing good. We all don’t want others suffering loss and being unfair. So….we try to discuss for solution one day.


‘What’s wrong with you? How come you treat us so bad?’
 
‘Do you have any difficulty? Just share with us. Let’s us help you’
 
‘Actually, I feel very depressed and frustrated on my own job. There are so many urgent projects on my hand……Sorry, I also want to put more effort on my assignment but……Woooo…..Wooo…..’
 
‘Come on, baby. Don’t worry about this. Just concentrate on your own work first. We can share your part on assignment. Once you complete your own work, then ask us to place you back your part.’
 
‘Thanks a lot, good mates.’
 
 
 


Communication is one of the most useful techniques. Though communication, we know deeply about others. We know the embarrassment who others’ facing. We know the strengths and weaknesses of others that we can maximum our strengths and minimum our weaknesses then. It’s very important for us.
 
  

 
 Secondly, tolerance can help us building good relationship inside our team. Without tolerance, argument exists easily but contributes nothing. In contrary, we can increase our productivity by tolerating others.
 
 
 

 
Respect each other is very important. We need to bear in mind that forgiving others would make us successful. We need to respect others’ opinion and others’ attitude, even some are not agreed with you. Once you have counter-opinion, just raise it up and discuss it with others in a peaceful environment.
 
Try to stand backward to view the situation and it may be surprised to you. Also, try to stand on others’ stone to see things. It must border your horizon and your insight. More, it is better to stand on others’ position for consideration once conflict exists.
 
 
 
  
Thinking positive is helpful for us to settle conflict. Different personality means there are different type of work mode for us to consider when doing our assignment. We can views the conflict as a chance to test our relationship or even a chance for us to try different approach of people. Because in reality, there are so many different types of people we will deal with in the future, if we can try it in the process of our assignment, we can earn more valuable experience which is unaccountable in the future.

 
All in all, we can cope with the problem of personality difference among our team by different means. Then, our team, Spirit, still can enjoy high spirit in doing our assignment.
